Poetic Fashion was the first and very successful event presented by Literature for Life at the Capitol Event Theatre in Toronto on August 27. With over 50 youth from “high priority” neighbourhoods in the GTA building bridges to end violence and encourage creativity. Emerging musicians, singers, dancers, poets, and fashion designers from Toronto’s urban communities presented extremely professional, diverse and positive performances to an audience of close to 700.
JD Keyz performance was a strong highlight of the evening, performing an original classical composition called “The Waltz” dedicated to his family who proudly supported him from the audience. He was warmly received after an impressive introduction as an outstanding example among his peers, with huge cheers for sponsor Roland Canada and a standing ovation from a very impressed crowd.

Among the evening's presenters were also MC Rapper JB formerly of The Game and Juelz Santana, Kid Famous of Flow 93.5, speaker / artist Robert Small, and guest speaker Professor Akua Benjamin. It was also an honour to receive opening remarks from Noelle Richardson, Deputy Officer for Diversity for Ontario Public Service.
The event was proudly supported by Mayor David Miller.
Congratulations to all involved for a terrific evening of entertainment, fashion and enlightenment.
