Babalao Stereo Club - Non-Stop Energy @ The Central !

With roots from Ecuador, Venezuela and various parts of South America, this Latin-Funk groove band, Babalao Stereo Club, will keep any house jumping from start to finish. The tiny space at the Central barely left enough room to move an inch for all those people on stage, but they managed to bop and groove and funk around just the same.

Now its obvious that these fellas are truly committed to their music and their culture. Founders Manuel Rivas (El Negro) / guitar and Ecuadorian Jaime Sanchez (Cholo) / bass, have stayed true to their goal of creating a vibrant dance band since 2006. After hundreds of auditions from different players their vision became more distinct with the inclusion of Rafael Seco (Rafa) / drums, David Figliano (El Forastero) / percussion, and just recently Adam Silver on keys and Gio Ortega, lead vocals.

There is no mistaking their musical message from the way they instantly engage the crowd, urge them closer to the stage and share pure energy. The Afro-Cuban beats, funky bass, layered with Spanish dance lyrics are all signatures of a successful collaboration of players destined to keep local clubs and parties grooving for a long time to come. Babalao Stereo Club have a great mix of songs and samples ranging from the likes of Santana (check out Sacudate & Ay Catira) and Earth Wind & Fire to James Brown. It’s a bonus too that they all carry strong vocals to support the power of the instrumentation.

As they swoon and charm the ladies to shed their shyness and warm the dance floor, equally impelling the young men step up and keep grooving, everybody has a great time well into the evening, no matter how lean the space may be. At one time all three front men were jumping with just inches between them, both feet off the ground, heads bouncing, not missing a beat.

Babalao Stereo Club knows how to throw a party ! So get ready to put on your dancing shoes, and check them out at Gate 403 on March 21st and don’t expect to stop moving till the night is through !
